Interview with Jerel Poor

ArnoldTalk: Jerel, tell me a little about you. What do you do? How long have you lived in Arnold? Do you have family here?

Jerel Poor: I own Best Auto and have done business in the area for approximately 28 years. I moved to Arnold a little over a year ago and most of my family is in the St. Louis Metropolitan area.

ArnoldTalk: Why are you interested in running for city council? Have you ever run/held public office before?

Jerel Poor: I have never held or run for public office before. I am running for city council to hopefully make a change. I would like to see all of the city council meetings televised on public access TV. I would also like to see all of the council packets along with the agendas and minutes on line in their entirety so that people could access the information, read it over to get a true feel for what is happening in our city.

ArnoldTalk: How do you assess Mr Brazeal's work on city council, and what would you do differently if elected?

Jerel Poor: My opponent has only been on the council for a short period of time, he is an intelligent man and has extensive knowledge of the inner workings of this city. As far as I know, he has served his appointed time filling in for Mr. Venable, well.

If elected, I would like to see more attention paid to what the people want and try to get more input from the public. I want them to know that they and their opinions matter to me.

ArnoldTalk: What is your standing on the use of eminent domain? What do you think about what Arnold has done thus far with their eminent domain use?

Jerel Poor: I am definitely against the abuse of eminent domain for third party economic gain. It’s a brutal process, I’ve been through it, so I know it’s not easy. I am not happy thus far, with the City’s use of eminent domain or their stance against the citizens and business owners in favor of the developer.

ArnoldTalk: If elected, what is the number one goal you'd like to achieve over your two-year term, and how would you go about achieving it?

Jerel Poor: If elected, I would like the council to go over the current laws to see what needs to be revised and/or eliminated and what may possibly need to be introduced. That would include introducing and ordinance dealing with eminent domain.

ArnoldTalk: You will be representing the citizens of Arnold. What do you think they consider the most important issue in Arnold?

Jerel Poor: Since I am running for Ward 2, I think the people are most interested in how we are spending their tax dollars. After knocking on a few doors and maybe some other contact from residents of Ward 2, I will know more.

ArnoldTalk: How can people get involved and help you promote your bid for office?

Jerel Poor: I can be reached at: jpoor@arnoldtalk.com or 636-296-5259

ArnoldTalk: Jerel, thank you for your time answering these questions and for your interest in our great city.
